As someone who has personally lived in Colorado Springs for over 10 years, there are many family friendly things to do. Located about an hour south of Denver, it hosts an array of outdoor activities, history, and breathtaking scenery. Here are our top favorite things to do.
Cheyenne Mountain ZOO
This zoo is located 6,714 feet above sea level and is the highest zoo in all of America. Featuring giraffes that you can get up close to and feed, along with breathtaking views of the city throughout, it’s a destination not to be missed.
Seven Falls
Seven Falls Is a series of seven cascading waterfalls. Located within a natural box canyon, it features beautiful rock rock formations in addition to its 181 feet of natural waterfalls.
Garden of the Gods
Garden of the Gods is probably the most popular destination in all of Colorado Springs. Popular for its huge red rock formations, it has numerous trails and is completely free to visit.
Red Rock Canyon Open Space
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is 1,474 acre park located between Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. With 11 different trails, ranging in difficulty it’s a perfect spot for hiking, mountain climbing or just relaxing and taking in the natural beauty of the area.
Visit Manitou Springs
Located just outside of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs is a quirky town nestled in a mountain. It has lots of cute shops, hiking trails, fun events, and delicious restaurants. My daughters favorite spot in this town is the penny arcade, which has a lot of old school arcade machines and kiddie rides.
Manitou Cliff Dwellings
Located in Manitou Springs, this site features replicas of Ancestral Puebloan Cliff Dwellings. While visiting you are able to go inside and walk through all the rooms, while learning about the history.
